  • Florida levies no income tax on wages, but payroll deductions and other state or local charges can still reduce your paycheck.
  • Florida's constitution prohibits a personal income tax. The state funds itself largely through sales and tourism taxes.

Other Florida taxes to know

Florida doesn't tax income, but sales tax, property tax and the taxes on buying a home still apply.

  • Sales tax: 6% state rate in 2026. Most counties add a discretionary sales surtax of 0.5% to 2%, charged on the first $5,000 of a single item.
  • Property tax: Set by counties, cities and school districts. The homestead exemption takes up to $50,000 off a primary home's assessed value, and Save Our Homes caps the yearly rise in that assessment at 3% or the change in CPI, whichever is lower.
  • Documentary stamp tax: 70 cents per $100 of the price on a deed in every county except Miami-Dade, which has its own rate. A new mortgage carries 35 cents per $100 in stamp tax plus a 0.2% nonrecurring intangible tax.
  • Investments: Not taxed. Florida repealed its annual tax on stocks, bonds and mutual funds in 2007.
  • Estate and inheritance tax: None. No Florida estate tax is due for deaths on or after January 1, 2005.
  • Homestead amendment (November 3, 2026 ballot): Would exempt the first $150,000 of a homestead's assessed value from non-school property taxes in 2027, rising to $250,000 in 2028. It needs 60% of the vote to pass.
